12 Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care

12 Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada has called on all parishes in the country to hold 12 Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care. In line with this initiative, our parish CWL is organizing its “12 hours of prayer” day, from 7am to 7pm on Tuesday, the 28th of May. Someone has to be in the church at every moment during this 12 hours. Please sign the sign-up sheet in the church’s foyer. Even if you can only come by for 15 minutes, please join us. The prayer will be concluded with a Holy mass at 7:00pm. NOTE: This means there will be no 1210h Mass. For more details, contact Diana Smith or Sister Maggie.

The goal is to raise awareness on palliative care for our country. There is a pressing need for all Canadians to have greater accessibility to palliative care. This end-of-life care is true compassion. It allows individuals who are facing death to not be burdened by pain and suffering but to receive the support that respects their human dignity both physically and spiritually.

Why “12 hours of prayer”? Prayer is a very powerful tool; Pope Francis says about prayer, “Miracles happen. But prayer is needed! Prayer that is courageous, struggling and persevering…”, and on another occasion he stated, “…I would like to invite you to pray together, for one another with one another… to experience the joy of knowing that Jesus is in our midst… Jesus helps us to find solutions to the injustices which he himself already experienced.” Continue to raise your voices to heaven and keep raising them until prayers are answered by the miracle of changing people’s minds and hearts.
